Employer requiring policy for part-time workers

My daughter is a college grad with a degree in Elementary Ed. She currently does substitute, fill-in, teaching gigs, as fulltime positions are rare. She also works part-time at a MAJOR coffee shop chain , here in Mn. She was recently told that by Jan 1, she MUST present proof of an insurance policy or she will be terminated from her coffee shop job. She makes $9/hr, and gets very few hours at the coffee shop, but every little bit helps when you are trying to make ends meet. So, not only is the Minnesota computer sign-up system in shambles, but the cost appears to make it clearly a big loser for her. She cannot simply elect to not get insurance as that will lead to her firing on Jan 1, yet she doesn’t make enough to justify going to work there, if she only can make such minimal dollars, that they all go toward an insurance premium. So why try and work hard to make it, if Obama care simply takes that money to shore up a system. BTW, she is totally healthy and resents the requirement to buy something she, as a free American, may choose not to buy. Thanks for listening.
